Bicycle Helmet Laws RI and MASS

Tapalian Law

By David Tapalian October 8th 2015.

With the fall season here it is one of the greatest times of the year to ride your bicycle with friends and family. It seems now that many more people, than in the past, are wearing helmets; which is great. I remember when I was a kid that it was unheard of to ride with a helmet. Recently however, I have seen from my experience with clients, who have been injured in a bike accident in Rhode Island and Massachusetts, that helmets save lives. The picture attached shows an actual helmet destroyed from an accident. Imagine what would have happened to their head without it.

Wearing a helmet seems to make so much sense, but is it the law? It depends if you are riding in RI or Mass. The law in Mass states that all riders under 17 and passengers under 5 must wear a helmet; In RI, anyone under 16 must wear a helmet. Bottom line is we all should wear our helmets!
