What NOT to do After a Car Accident.
By David Tapalian October 13th 2015
A lot of people blog about what to do after an accident. I wanted to take a moment to write about what we should NOT do after a car accident in RI or Mass when you are injured.
- Don’t think its ok to just exchange information with the other driver. Call the police and have them prepare a report of what happened. So many clients make the mistake thinking they don’t need the police. If the accident wasn’t your fault a well written accident report by the police will help illustrate this to the insurance company.
- Don’t get angry! This doesn’t help and may actually hurt your case down the road.
- Never offer to settle with the other driver or pay for damages. An offer of payment, similar to an apology, can be argued as an admission of fault.
- If possible and can safely be done, do not forget to take pictures of your vehicles damage as well as the other driver’s vehicle. This may be your only time to take photos of the other car and if the damage was significant those pictures can be very useful.
